Press Releases – 3.1.15-5.31.15

3.16.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Kristan Paul (28). A kind and quiet young man was murdered last week in South Euclid, but Kristan Paul grew up in the area around Coit Road Park, so his family and friends will gather at the Park to remember him.
Come and join us as we try to bring some comfort to his family and friends. We will also take a donation to help with burial costs.
3.18.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Curtis Avent III (29). A friend calls and asks for help getting home. You go and you end up being shot and killed. Why?
By the time this week is over, we will have participated in four vigils and that doesn’t cover all the murders. Violence is soaring and families are being ripped apart.
Family and friends will meet to remember Curtis Avent III on Wednesday at 7 pm at 9102 Aetna Road. Let’s come together to try to comfort another family.
3.19.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Clifford Cunard (58). Mr. Cunard was a strong many with many talents and trades who worked for the City of Highland Heights. He was beginning a new life and starting over only to be abruptly stopped in a way we cannot begin to understand. He leaves behind two child, a sister and two brothers, and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as, many friends who will all miss him dearly.
The family needs donations to help with burial expenses and we will collect donations at the vigil and give them directly to the family. The family will also set up a bank account and will let everyone know which bank has the account at the vigil.
Please join us as family and friends will come together to remember Mr. Cunard, his life and try to bring comfort to each other.
3.20.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Walter Saunders (60). Home Invasions. Have home invasions increased tremendously or is it just a figment of our imagination. Survivors/Victims, BBCI and Black Man’s Army sincerely believe that statistics will show that home invasions have increased in 2014 and early 2015. But don’t take our word for it. Check the crime statistics and see if our assumptions are correct.
Take for instance that in the last two weeks there have been two home invasions. The home of a 17 year old young man was broken into. He was robbed and killed. Then, a grandfather, Walter Saunders, was resting in his home when it was invaded. He was shot four times and killed.
Our focus today is on Mr. Saunders. He was a loving parent, grandfather, handyman, casino worker, and a neighborhood favorite who everyone admired. He was a blessing on East 84 Street off Cedar Avenue.
Hundreds of family, friends, and co-workers will gather for a memorial candlelight vigil for Mr. Saunders on Friday at 7 pm. We are inviting everyone to come out and show their love.
At the same time, our final note is this. We who pay attention to crime are getting very nervous – if you are not safe in your home, where are you safe? Home invasions are a crime that scares us.
3.21.15, 5 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Brandon Jones (18). Why Was a Young Man Killed Because of One Bag of Groceries? Family and friends will gather at Parkwood and Primrose to remember Brandon and say goodbye. Brandon made bad choice, a mistake. Was it a mistake that meant he should be killed? No!
Brandon mother and father had eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls. Now one of their children is gone. Brandon always told his mother to make sure his sisters had enough food, etc. She said if you needed his help to get something fixed, he would always help. Despite any learning difficulties he had in the classroom, he was gifted in other areas.
Brandon will be missed. His family is heartbroken.
Come and join us as we try to comfort this family and take up a donation to help in some small way with funeral expenses.
3.22.15, 4-6 pm. There will be a vigil along with a symbolic and public funeral procession, Sunday, March 22nd from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral procession will start from Cudell Recreation center to the 1st District police station on West 130th. Many of you have participated in actions and events working to end police brutality and systematic racism. Thank you for this. We must remain on the wall and
continue to press for justice and accountability so that true reconciliation and healing can begin.
This weekend, we are hoping you will join us in a special action to remember Tamir Rice, Tanisha Anderson, Malissa Williams, Timothy Russell, Michael Brown, John Crawford III, Eric Garner, Brandon Jones, and all those that have lost their lives to police brutality.
This Sunday, March 22nd, marks four months since the death of Tamir Rice. The groups Black Leaders Across Cleveland Connected and Coalition Against Police Violence are organizing nationwide actions for the weekend. In Cleveland, there will be a vigil on Sunday, March 22nd and advocacy days for Monday, March 23rd.
These actions are under the banner #BlkMarchMadness and more information is available at:https://www.facebook.com/events/1088699024489273/
3.23.15, 5:30 pm. Candlelight Vigil for I’Shauwn Brooks (15). Family and friends will gather to remember I’Shauwn Brooks whose life was ruthlessly cut short.
3.28.15, 8 pm. Evelyn B. King Glenara Temple #21 sponsored a Western Style Cabaret at the Pythagoras Temple, 15812 Waterloo. It was a fun event for all.
3.31.15, 4 pm. Murder of Michael Davis. What in the world is going on? That is the question being asked by the family and friends of Michael Davis to the court and all media sources.
A neighborhood feud becomes a murder case and the judge hearing the case completely exonerated the murderer. He also slapped the family in the face by calling Michael Davis, the victim, a bully. Mr. Davis used to spar with Mike Tyson.
Not only does the family feel that Judge Friedman made the wrong decision in his ruling of not guilty and self defense, but also slandered the victim in a way that hurt the family very much. Not only is the family crying cover-up, calling the ruling a miscarriage of justice, and saying the judge is very insensitive, but they feel that there were facts that were not allowed into evidence.
They are not going to take this decision quietly. Come hear what the family says about two neighbors feuding over leaves being blown into yards. This feud should never have turned into a murder where the victim was shot three times, including one in the side and one in the back.
4.2.15, 7 pm. Death of Robert Sharp. Murder, Suicide or Neglected Medical Attention by the Sheriff’s Department in the County Jail. Is this another Sean Levert medical situation? Did Robert Sharp receive proper medical treatment? Was he cared for?
The family of Robert Sharp will hold a press conference on Thursday at 7 pm. They have questions. They are demanding answers. How did Robert Sharp end up dead while he was in the custody of the Sheriff’s Department?
4.6.15, 6:30 pm. Brelo’s Trial. It’s Not Too Cold or Too Early to Seek Justice. Members of Black on Black Crime, Inc. and the Black Man’s Army will be on the steps of the Justice Center at 6:30 am calling out for justice and truth to be present during the trial of Brelo who is charged with firing a multitude of bullets into a car containing two unarmed victims. Allegedly, he stood on the hood of a car. Allegedly, he shot his gun until the bullets ran out and then reloaded.
4.11.15, 1 pm. Rally to Find the Killer(s) of Jason Cummings. A FAMILY AND COMMUNITY DEDICATED
AND COMMITTED TO GETTING INFORMATION TO FIND
THE KILLER(S) OFF JASON CUMMINGS. My son, Jason Cummings, was murdered on April 4, 2009. His murder is still unsolved. We need your help just like Aliza Sherman’s family needs your help to find her murderer.
Please join my family and friends at East 108 and Olivet by the alley. We will pass out flyers and talk to whoever is willing to give us any information which could lead to the arrest and conviction of Jason’s murderer.
Jason was shot on April 4, 2009 approximately 11:30 p.m. He was walking home from the First Pick Barber Shop where he worked. It was during this time that he was attacked by 4 young men. Two of them were more active participants to the robbery and his shooting. We cannot rest until we find the murderers.
If you have any information concerning this case please contact Det. Kathleen Carlin phone number (216) 623-6212. Thank you and God bless you.

4.11.15, 6 pm. Glenville Elks Lodge #1494 had a splendid 55th Anniversary Ball at the Doubletree Hotel. The Lodge began with 218 members and Bro. Herbert Atkins was honored as the last remaining original member who is still very active in Elkdom. Many other Brothers were also honored for their many years of service to Elkdom, the Lodge and the community.
4.14.15, 2-4 pm. A brief report on the action yesterday and an initial summary of the People’s Tribunal on Police Brutality for you!
People gathered and were very excited by the large banners and the variety of forces who arrived to the area–members of the family of Brandon Jones, killed by Cleveland police on March 19, ministers in clerical collars, revolutionaries, Puncture the Silence and Black on Black Crime, immigration rights activists, students from John Carroll University, young people joining from a teach-in in front of the “Justice” Center and many others. A rally was followed by a spirited march to City Hall where a delegation delivered an initial summation of the testimony of the People’s Tribunal on Police Brutality, April 1, to the Mayor of Cleveland. He was not in, but an assistant promised to give him this indictment of the criminal “justice” system in Cleveland.
The march continued through the main streets of downtown Cleveland, accompanied by 4 mounted police, who struggled to corral the demonstrators and, along with speeding police cars, sirens blaring, and actual barricades, succeeded in preventing access to the highway. Someone mentioned that the police had been preparing for this day for weeks.
Until beyond 6 pm the demonstrators continued to take the streets, marching, chanting, shouting at the police, “No Justice, No Peace!”, ” CPD, what do you say? How Many Kids Did You Kill Today?” “Black Lives Matter, Justice for Brandon, Justice for Tamir, Justice for Tanisha, Justice for Malissa, Justice for Timothy, Justice for Walter…”
4.20.15, 5 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Miyazhane Vance (19). Another Home Invasion in Cleveland. Is anyone other than Survivors/Victims or Black on Black Crime checking the statistics on the increase in home invasions in Greater Cleveland? Is anyone else alarmed or disturbed about these home invasions? Why hasn’t the media done an in-depth report on these tragedies? Isn’t the Mayor of Cleveland concerned about the increase in home invasions? We just want to know because it’s our conclusion that if a person or family is not safe in their own home, we have a serious problem.
The last home invasion occurred just a few days ago. Miyazhane Vance was murdered and her 17 year old brother was critically wounded. This vicious assault occurred as Ms. Vance’s children and other person hid in a closet. How devastating and traumatic when children are not safe with their mother in their own home and hear their mother being murdered and their uncle being shot. Now, we have more children who have lost a parent to the senseless and cowardly violence in our streets.
Family members and friends will join with the neighborhood in front of the apartment building where this occurred to cry out for no more murders and ask for donations for Ms. Vance’s small children.
Furthermore, the mother would like to make it perfectly clear that the information from Councilman Jeff Johnson, who she respects, was completely wrong and the statements were slanderous when he said her son was in several gangs and the attack was gang related, This was absolutely not the case.
Join us as we meet with family and friends of Miyazhane Vance.
4.23.15, 6 pm. Seventh Anniversary Vigil for Family & Friends of Antonio Cole. Mr. Cole’s murderer has still not been identified. Another cold case! It’s been so long and the case is still unsolved. His family is pleading for information leading to the identification of the person who killed their beloved son, brother, uncle. This unknown, callous individual took the life of a nice man who was well regarded and loved by many. He held his family together with love and caring.
Please join us as we join with the family and friends of Antonio Cole. Mr. Cole’s family doesn’t have thousands of dollars for a reward fund, so they are asking the public for help to catch his killer. We you’re your help. Thanks.
4.24.15, 6 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Adam Williams (49). Family and friends will come together to remember Adam Williams who was shot in the back and found near 20th and Woodhill Road. We will meet at his mother’s house on Harvard to try to bring comfort to each other to remember this father, son and brother who was a victim of senseless, random and cowardly violence.
Thank you.
4.25.15, 5 pm. 137 Shot Tragedy/Brelo/ Police Officers Testifying/Jackson/Flask. You can hear directly from Martin Flask’s why the police officers involved in the 137 shot tragedy besides Brelo are guilty. We will show actual videotaped statements of Martin Flask where he talked about the officers being as guilty as Brelo.
4.26.15, Midnight to 4.27.15 at Noon. Camp Out at Justice Center – Monitor Brelo Trial. Deadly Force Policy/Procedures. If the boot doesn’t fit, you must acquit. Flashbacks from the famous California trial. Could the same situation happen in the Brelo/137 shot trial?
The Black community has become too lackadaisical in monitoring the Brelo trial – one of the most important trials in recent history in Cleveland. Even though only Brelo has been charged, we must never forget there were 13 other officers firing their guns.
The Black Man’s Army believes that the significance of this trial is so important that from midnight on Sunday to Noon on Monday, we will camp out at the Justice Center. Bring your blankets and chairs. Prayers and protests all night breaking the chain of police brutality and murder.
Black lives matter. All lives matter.
We will begin setting up camp on Lakeside Avenue at 11 pm. We are asking everyone to come and join us in prayer, song and protests.
4.26.15, Midnight to 4.27.15 at Noon. Camp Out at Justice Center – Monitor Brelo Trial.

Deadly Force Policy/Procedures

The worst case of police brutality and murder in the history of Cleveland happened when the 137 Shot Tragedy occurred on 11.29.12. People all over the world have come out and shown a lot of interest about this notorious tragedy.
However, the people of Cleveland really have not shown the interest that this case merits. Truly, how can they not realize the significance of this case? How can they ignore or justify 100 police officers being involved in a chase with 13 of those officers firing a total of 137 shots at and into two unarmed people with one of those officers firing 49 shots from his gun into those two unarmed people.
How can the people of Cleveland not recognize the significance of this case? Especially with all but one of those officers being vindicated or only getting slaps on their wrists. This will have serious consequences on other police actions and trials meaning that they can get away with almost anything including the Tamir Rice and the Tanisha Alexander cases.
Time is running out on hundreds of people showing their concern about the Brelo case. It is disgusting to see that the courtroom and corridors are sparsely filled. There has not been any outcry from churches, ministers, organizations and individuals. It is truly disheartening and downright shameful.
However, it is not too late for all of us to still come out to break the chains of police brutality and police murder. Some of us will show our concern by setting up a 12 hour demonstration starting at midnight on Sunday and continuing through Monday at noon. We will rally, pray and protest. We are inviting everyone to come out and join us at times throughout the night and especially at noon on Monday.
All lives matter. Let’s tell the police that all lives matter. Let’s tell the police that when they don’t follow policies and procedures, their actions will have consequences.

5.4 & 5.15, 10 am to Noon. The Brelo Trial. The City Wants Calm and Peace. If the city wants calm and peace, convict Officer Brelo on at least the manslaughter charge. It is the right thing to do. If the 137 shot tragedy is not a crime with Brelo standing on the hood shooting 49 times into the car, the people will have a very serious problem.
After over 4,000 cases of police misconduct, harassment, intimidation, excessive use of force, including deadly force, were found justified, it’s time for a conviction. Many of us in the city of Cleveland are tired of slaps on the wrists and no real justice.
We are asking for thousands of people to come out and join us on the steps of the Justice Center. We will be there with the families of Malissa Williams and Timothy Russell, the Tamir Rice family including his mother, Tanisha Anderson’s family, on behalf of Brandon Jones, on behalf of John Hedebrand, on behalf of Freddie Gray, on behalf of the family of Michael Davis who was killed by a retired military police officer, and on behalf of many others who have suffered at the hands of excessive/deadly force by some police officers. We are inviting all victims of police harassment, intimidation, being pulled over for driving while Black, beaten up by police.
We need to break the chains of police brutality and stop those officers who feel they have the authority to break the law.
5.4.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Devion LeSure (9). A scared young boy ran out into the street and was mortally hit by a truck. His family is devastated and will meet with friends and community organizations to remember Devion and try to learn the truth about why Devion ran out into the street.

We all saw the video of Tamir’s shooting; No child should have to lose their life in this manner. The death of Tamir Rice has added yet another blemish to our Community due to the Recklessness of the Cleveland Police Department. Today we begin to make a difference. Will you be a part of the Change?
Join us Monday May 4, 2015 Downtown in front of the Justice Center
• ARRIVE AT 10:15Am
• BRING YOUR VOICE!
• BRING YOUR SIGN’S!
BRING A FRIEND!
5.7.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Pajo R. Barnes (22). Murder, Murder, Murder. Too often the streets of Cleveland are like killing fields painted with blood. Many times it becomes generational. Take, for example, the murder Pajo Barnes who was shot down in cold blood in the parking lot of an elementary school. Ironically, his father was killed in similar circumstances as he was on his way to work. At this time, both murders remain unsolved.
There are many other families in the City of Cleveland who have experienced too many murders.
Pajo was a hard working young man. He helped out everybody. Another family is devastated by murder. His death leaves three more young children, two girls and a boy between the ages of 1 to 6, without a father.
What are we doing? Why isn’t everyone working together to save our family members? If peace, love, tolerance and patience prevailed, lives would be saved.
5.8.15, 6:30 pm. Rally to Find Tierra Bryant (20) – Missing Since 3.30.15. Friends of Tierra Bryant will meet at East 108 & St. Clair to pass out flyers asking for the safe return of Tierra to her family. Tierra has been missing since 3.30.15. Her family and friends are frantic with worry.
We need the eyes and ears of the public. We need your help.
Tierra has been missing since March 30, 2015. Tierra is 5’4.” She has brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing grey and white “pink” pants, a black sweatshirt, black and pink boots, and cream colored head wrap. Tierra has several tattoos – “Diamond with wings,” ELMA with a butterfly on her right hand, and a rose on her stomach. Her belly button and ears are pierced.
Please join us as we reach out to the community around East 108 & St. Clair to try to find Tierra. Another group of family and friends will also be passing out flyers along Pearl Road.
5.9.15, 6 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Dawn Welch (32). Family, friends and community groups will meet at the family home of Dawn Welch. Dawn was killed recently over on East 149 and Edgewood, but the family wants to have the vigil at her mother’s house.
Dawn’s murder leaves behind three children ages 10, 12 and 13. Three more children who have lost a parent, this time a mother, because of the crazy violence in the streets. Dawn loved being around her family, loved driving people to their destinations and she was going to school to become a registered nurse. Another huge loss of life in our community.
Please join family and friends as we come together to remember the life of Dawn Welch and share our love for her, her children and each other.
5.13.15, 3:30 pm. Rally at the Justice Center. Puncture the Silence endorses this call to protest the relentless murders of innocent human beings by police. We feel we must act now to stop them and demand justice!!!
If not now, when?
If not you, who?
IT’S ALMOST SIX MONTHS SINCE 12 YEAR OLD TAMIR RICE WAS MURDERED, ON VIDEO, BY CLEVELAND COP LOEHMANN – AND STILL NO INDICTMENT! The sheriff makes a mockery of justice in a no-results report on the investigation into Tamir’s murder.
THE VERDICT IN THE TRIAL OF COP MICHAEL BRELO, WHO PUMPED 49 SHOTS AT MALISSA WILLIAMS & TIMOTHY RUSSELL MAY BE RELEASED ON MAY 18.
Twelve other cops fired 88 more shots after 62 cop cars and 115 cops chased two unarmed Black people across the city of Cleveland. These officers are still working as police and face NO CHARGES from this state-sponsored lynching!
The cop who shot Tony Robinson in Madison, WI, has been exonerated.
AND NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST THE COPS WHO MURDERED BRANDON JONES, TANISHA ANDERSON – AND SO MANY BEFORE THEM!
We Demand:
•The murder of Black and Brown people by the police MUST STOP.
•Justice for all the victims of police murder.
•Indict, convict, and send killer cops to jail – the whole damn system is guilty as hell.
5.14.15, 7 pm. Death of Robert Sharp. Robert Sharp’s mother wants to know why her son didn’t receive life saving medical treatment? She said he was Mahoning County Jail and then Cuyahoga County Jail since late February on outstanding traffic warrants.
How did Robert Sharp die while he was in the custody of the Sheriff’s Department? Where or how did he get the alleged drugs that they say were in his body?
The family of Robert Sharp will hold a press conference on Thursday at 7 pm seeking a response. Thursday is his mother’s birthday but she will be protesting her son’s death at the Justice Center. The family has questions. They are demanding answers.
5.14.15, 7 pm. Candlelight Vigil for Dominique Vinson (23). Family and friends of Dominique Vinson will come together again at the location where he was murdered to remember his life, try to comfort each other and express their love for him.
5.18.15, 10 am-Noon. Rally in Support of Justice for Malissa Williams and Timothy Russell. Only in Cleveland are there protests against the protestors. Why is everybody trying to stop the protests and not the problem? The protestors are not the problem. We all know what the problem is.
The police have a long history in Cleveland of beating up and killing Black men and women and children and then calling it justified. Driving while Black. Framing innocent people. Dirty tricks and unscrupulous police. Then they are back on the street the next day to harass more Black people. After a while, it gets good to them, but it’s bad, really bad for us. We are catching all the Hell.
Black people are tired of the killing in Cleveland and even White people are tired of it, too. That is why they are marching. We are inviting all who want justice, to join us on Monday at 10 am on the steps of the Justice Center (Lakeside entrance) for justice for Timothy and Malissa, and for fair verdict against Brelo.
The city would be wiser spending thousands of dollars to get rid of the problem and not the protestors.
Join us on Monday at 10 am.
5.20.15, 2-4 pm. In the Hood Rally Against Police Brutality and Murder. BBCI, the Black Man’s Army and Survivors/Victims don’t believe there will be any riots in Cleveland because of the ruling in the Brelo case. We’ve listened to the pulse of the city and don’t believe there will be any rioting, burning or looting in the City of Cleveland.
Don’t be frightened Cleveland.
This announcement will be discussed on East 82 & Cedar Avenue where residents will join forces with other community organizations to have a protest in the hood against police brutality and murder.
We have been downtown. Now, we are protesting on East 82 & Cedar at the request of the residents.
5.23.15, 10 pm. Statement from the Puncture the Silence Steering Committee. The Brelo verdict will be announced today at 10 am. We call on everyone to follow the plan to be at the “Justice” Center for the announcement. We anticipate the verdict setting a very unjust precedent here in Cleveland. We feel we must raise our voices very loudly that police murder with impunity is intolerable and it has to stop! BLACK LIVES MATTER.
At noon there will be a justice procession in Prosecutor’s McGinty’s neighborhood to mark the 6 months since Tamir’s death, and demand justice around his killing by police–now.
TODAY.
10 am–“Justice” Center
12 noon–Impett Park- 3207 West 153rd Street.
5.23.15, Noon. No Justice for Tamir Rice, No Peace Rally. It’s been six month and no charges have been brought against the police who killed Tamir Rice. If Prosecutor McGinty refuses to charge the officers, we will come to his neighborhood until his neighbors want justice as much as the rest of us.
5.24.15, 1 pm. Peaceful Protest over Unjust Verdict/Unresolved Police Murders. Adrian McCurdy and other residents of the St. Clair area have organized a peaceful march to protest the not guilty verdict released today in the Brelo case. They are also marching about the other cases of police murder. They are inviting everyone to walk with them from East 123 & St. Clair to East 144 & St. Clair in a peaceful march.
5.25.15, 9 am. DEMONSTRATE OUTSIDE THE JUSTICE CENTER TOMORROW MEMORIAL DAY
BE THERE AT 9:00AM. DEMAND THAT ALL PROTESTORS BE SET FREE.
There were over 70 people arrested on Saturday for protesting the verdict in the Brelo Case. It is outrageous and fundamentally wrong that not a single cop will spend even a night in jail for the horrific murder of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams. 137 shots yet protestors sit in jail.
WE STAND WITH ALL PROTESTORS WHO WERE ARRESTED. LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT ALONE. AND THAT WE DEMAND THAT THEY BE SET FREE
We need to raise funds for everyone’s legal defense
